Overview

DivvyCloud is a cloud security startup. In just 2 years, they tripled the number of enterprise customers they service. This growth brought on the initiative to mature product development from reactive developer-led, customer specific products to a proactive strategy driven approach.

With more strategy in place, design to engineering implementation became resource heavy because of the lack of a single source of truth for UI direction along and time intensive labor required to make UI updates with the framework front end engineering was using. I helped DivvyCloud overcome this hurdle and continue forward with strategy by creating a Design System.

I am currently still managing and evolving this design system today

Results
Decreased design to engineering implementation time
Increased consistency of look & function throughout the application
Facilitated the continued maturation of product development at DivvyCloud
My Role
Research, UI Design, Project Management
Built, implemented and maintained a design system
Here's how I did it

The Challenge

DivvyCloud is an enterprise cloud security startup. In recent years, the business has grown rapidly and their traditional practice of creating developer-led features with little to no research, validation, or strategy isn't scaling as the business grows. Although this method did allow for the company grow at earlier phases with minimal issues, now this method is causing more challenges than benefits, the main ones being:

  • Making updates and modifications to the application consistently requires heavy resource dedication, we are finding that resource heavy projects are turning out to have a significantly lower return on investment than originally anticipated
  • Generally, when we make decisions about problem prioritization retroactively we find that our time would have been much better spent elsewhere
  • Across the application, the is a major consistency divide, but visually and functionally.

The Solution

DivvyCloud is an enterprise cloud security startup. In recent years, the business has grown rapidly and our traditional practice of creating developer-led features with little to no research, validation, or strategy isn't scaling well as the business grows. Although this method did work in earlier phases of the company, now it's causing a number of challenges, the main ones being:

  • Consistently, we are finding that resource heavy projects are turning out to have a significantly lower return on investment than originally anticipated
  • Generally, when we make decisions about problem prioritization retroactively we find that our time would have been much better spent elsewhere
  • Across the application, the is a major consistency divide, but visually and functionally.
